CHARACTER
NAME: Ritsuka Fujimaru
CANON: Fate/Grand Order
CANON POINT: Part 2 Finale (specifically, the moment of taking the last step alongside Mash)
BACKGROUND: Fan wiki page
SUITABILITY: Ritsuka's been through a lot. So much so that, frankly, suddenly finding herself transported to a world of quasi-magical 'monsters' is unquestionably a step up. Yes, even with potential to have her values challenged; at least here the stakes will probably be a bit lower than, say, having the continued existence of all of humanity being on the line.
Basically, Ritsuka's a character who's been through the wringer and then some... But that's never once truly stopped her. She's always willing to step up to a new challenge, the kind of person that stubbornly clings to the idea that even the tiniest chance of success is better than giving up and having no chance. This combined with her canon point--where to her knowledge her main task is finally, truly finished--means she'll both be able to let herself relax a little, while at the same time having plenty of room and opportunity for further growth. Because while she may no longer need to worry about saving humanity, oh boy does this poor young woman have so, so much trauma and personal baggage that she's barely had the chance to scratch the surface of.
So aside from her innate adaptability and tolerance for dealing with Weird Crap(tm), this is precisely the sort of scenario to shake things up a bit and maybe jostle some of those locked-down feelings loose to be dealt with. And beyond that? Well, seeing how things develop in their own right is precisely the fun of these things, right?
QUESTIONNAIRE:
POKEMON: Rufflet. So, first of all is typing. Anything with Normal type is already incredibly fitting, as Ritsuka being such an "ordinary" person at her core is a major recurring theme in canon. Flying type is an added bonus, both because the type's qualities, especially the theme of optimism, is appropriate, and because, well. Canon has a bit of a running gag of Ritsuka falling from dangerously high places, which somehow never once makes her hesitate to get right back up and take similar risks again. Not even dying one time kept her down! (Pun intended.) (She got better.)
More than that, though, is Rufflet's behavior and personality based on its pokedex entries. You see, while Ritsuka has never particularly liked fighting, she's also never hesitated to do so anyway when needed. She's proven herself to be incredibly resilient, and what's more, shows no hesitation even in the face of enemies that outclass her by literal orders of magnitude. She tends to be quick to rush into things, often without fully thinking it through, and one of her biggest insecurities is feeling weak and wanting to be stronger. Plus, if Rufflet's evolution Braviary is factored in as well, it becomes even more apt: Braviary is noted for fighting for its friends with no thought for itself. Amongst other exmaples Ritsuka once, when already exhausted to the point of basically running off stimulants, sprinted a kilometer to physically interpose herself between a friend and a surprise attack... And that's not to mention the fact that a key moment in kicking off the entire game's plot in the first place was when she knowingly ran into danger, just to make sure someone she'd befriended mere hours before was okay.
In other words, Rufflet is highly apt both for symbolism reasons and for pulling from some of Ritsuka's biggest inner strengths and general canon character development and making them, well, giving them form externally. Which in turn will hopefully give her a nudge towards better recognizing those strengths, herself. (Though, given this is Ritsuka we're talking about here, well, we'll see how that goes...) Since Rufflet is normally a gender-locked species, my intent would be to play Ritsuka as one that simply happens to be female, because it's just so fitting otherwise it'd be a shame to pass it up!
Oh and also, Rufflet's one feather is basically an ahoge, okay.
GUILD OPT-OUT: None in particular! I'm fine running with whatever you guys wanna do, as I'm sure Ritsuka would certainly add something to any guild she's placed in...

QUESTIONNAIRE:
⟡ Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?
There is no question Ritsuka would want to help, even if it comes at a risk. Even if it jeopardizes the whole mission. She's never been the kind of person who's okay with simply leaving someone behind when there's the possibility she could save them; those who've known her for any length of time in canon are quick to nod and say "I knew you'd say that" when they've asked her what she's wanted to do in countless similar scenarios. That said, she'd still approach the situation with caution, and would try to find a way to work with her team to make it happen. Whether it's by splitting up so that others can continue, or by all of them pitching in to help before moving on, she'd try to find the best way to work things out together.
Still, she does have some sense of the pragmatic when it comes to things like this. She'd avoid needless risks (unavoidable risks are a different story!) and realize that an ideal outcome may not always be possible. Perhaps the most the group can do is simply get supplies to the injured Pokemon for now, and then come back with more help later, for example. It might not be Ritsuka's preferred option, but as long as the problem's still addressed in the end she's willing to work with what she can get.
That said, the one scenario she'd pretty much entirely refuse to entertain is simply not helping at all. It would take either physically restraining her or proving there's absolutely no chance of success--or possibly both--to prevent her from at least trying to do something.
⟡ Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?
First off, she'd be pleasantly surprised and honestly pleased that they suggested it before she could! Ritsuka's always been quick to team up with enemies in the past, even those who had done some very direct and personal harm to her. Even those who make it clear that the partnership is only temporary in order to defeat a mutual enemy, and who will fight her as soon as that's done. And, yes, even after that point, if those now-former enemies choose to join her cause? Ritsuka welcomes them.
Well, some she might still keep an eye on to be sure they're not making more other kinds of trouble, but still. She'd accept such a proposal without hesitation.
⟡ The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?
The answer is no. Honestly, Ritsuka hardly even needs to think about it. It's not just that even this "deal of a lifetime" pales compared to the magical wish-granting devices she's had all but dangled in front of her countless times in canon, but also simply that it runs contrary to her nature. Ritsuka is not someone who wants someone or something else to just take care of her problems for her. And she most especially has no intention of obtaining personal gain by causing harm to others. That's a line she has no interest in crossing, ever.
So really, the moment the shadiness and potential to harm becomes clear? That'll be a swift and hard nope from Ritsuka.
⟡ Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?
First, Ritsuka would try to find another solution. Is there any possibility of shuffling rations around to buy time to stabilize those two ill Pokemon before sending out a team? What about sending a smaller group out at first, gather just enough to squeak by, then do a proper team after that when the patients are hopefully not as critical? What if she took on extra work or tasks to make up the difference? And so on. If there's any chance at all of saving everyone, Ritsuka would put all she has into finding it and making it reality.
However.
She also is all too well-acquainted with situations where there truly isn't a way to do that, or at least none within her means. Where saving one side ensures the loss of the other. If it were clearly, undisputably that kind of situation where all other options have failed, or if there's no time to try anything else and a snap decision is needed before people start dying, she'd choose based on what she thinks would be best. Most likely, this would be sending a team out for food. Not because it's a numbers game of saving "more" people one way or the other, but because if the root problem--the supply shortage--isn't addressed, there won't be resources to deal with the situation if anyone else falls ill or injured. An exception might be if, say, one or both of the ill Pokemon were absolutely essential to everyone else's long-term wellbeing, but the odds of that are unlikely, even if it's still a factor she'd take into consideration.
Making that decision isn't the end of the process as far as Ritsuka's concerned, though, even if nobody ever said a word to her after that. For one thing, she'd own her own decision. There's no excuses to be made, and if it turns out to be a bad call, well, she'll just have to find a way to live with it. She also wouldn't try to argue with or dismiss pushback or complaints, either. People have a right to be upset with her if her actions hurt them, as far as she's concerned.... and frankly she'd already be her own worst critic. No matter what anyone else says, nobody can blame Ritsuka more than she already blames herself. She would, however, do everything within her power to try to ensure that the situation is resolved and will not happen again. Regardless of the choice, no matter the numbers, any life lost is still a life, and she'd feel she owes it to those who died to make certain those deaths weren't in vain.
