It was warm. Hot, even. The few clouds in the sky did little to dim the sun, and the low-growing brush and scattered small trees offered little by way of shade. Even the grasses, while long, were still thin and tough rather than soft and cushioning.
Ritsuka had certainly had worse awakenings, but yet this was still one of the most puzzling. So much so that, while she bolted upright in surprise almost immediately, she then simply sat there dumbfounded for a good moment or two, staring at her surroundings as a realization hit her. Not only was this definitely not where she was supposed to be, but also she could still remember everything.
Something was clearly not right, but she probably needed a moment to properly process this, well, everything.
While there was many a thing that doesn't surprise this angel, this was certainly one that did. For the most part Sandalphon had been gathering his own bearings, trying to recognize at least one thing in the immediate vicinity. But even with his growing curiosity, he stayed relatively close to the other he had found next to her. It'd be rude to do so, plus he'd gain intel that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
Even if a part of him just wanted to stick it to them and leave them solo.
He jumped when she immediately shot up like lighting, but was able to easily recover.
"Are you alright?" He asked, gingerly. He doesn't know if she had suffered through a whole explosion or something. Though something tells him that it's totally possible something like that did.
Perhaps the only thing to be certain of, wherever they were was probably far from any civilization... And certainly wasn't any place either of them would recognize. Ritsuka certainly didn't, though she was aware of how vast the world was not to immediately leap to conclusions. Not immediately, at least.
She did jump a bit though when she heard someone speaking right next to her, turning to face the stranger. Despite the fact that she knew very well there shouldn't be any reason for concern, not anymore, old habits died hard and she tensed a little, just in case.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine.... I think so, at least."
Full of questions, to be sure, but physically perfectly fine as far as she could tell.
It was blunt, but it was true. There was nothing in the vicinity that he recognized, and while it unsettling for him, there was no need for his new companion to know that. Best to just keep it strictly business for now.
"Good to hear that you're alright." he started. "But the fact that you're not hurt is slightly concerning." Because to Sandalphon, human or not, no one escapes damage, even something as small as a scrape. He doubts the girl will answer him truthfully, but that's of little concern to him- he wants to know why rather than the what.
"What's the last thing you remember, out of curiosity." That's a good place to start, he thinks.
Granted, it simply never occurred to Ritsuka to even consider minor scrapes and such as harm. If it didn't need intervention to treat or heal, it wasn't worth worrying about. Especially since she'd had far, far worse before.
Besides, there was that question to consider. Ritsuka paused for a moment, not because she had any trouble remembering, but because she was still unsure of what to make of the situation.
"... I was crossing back into Proper Human History with Mash."
That doubtless made no sense without context, but attempting to explain that would take ages.
